Registration
The Mauritius shipping laws allow for permanent, provisional and parallel registration of vessels. Provisional registration under the Mauritius Flag for a period of up to six months prior to permanent registration is allowed and may be effected at any place abroad, where Mauritius has an embassy, a consulate or an honorary consul. Parallel registration. Ships bareboat registered in a foreign registry chartered by Mauritius companies may be registered in the Mauritius Open Ship Registry for the period of the charter, however, not exceeding three years.

The requirements to be observed for registration under the Mauritius flag are as follows :
(A) Application for Registration
In case of body corporate there is the need to produce these additional documents: a copy of certificate of incorporation certified to be a true copy by the owner’s director or company secretary and a copy of resolutions of its board of directors, certified to be a true copy by a director or its company secretary, authorising a director or the company secretary, or an original power ofattorney signed by a director authorising one or more named persons, to effect registration of the ship in Mauritius.

(B) Declaration of ownership
Form SR02 to be used or information as required therein to be supplied since the Act requires the declaration to state: that the ship is owned by a citizen of Mauritius or a body corporate incorporated in Mauritius; that the ship is seaworthy; the name of the ship’s master and particulars of his certificate of competency number; where the ship was previously registered in another country, that the ship has been deleted from such register free and clear of registered encumbrances or, where the ship was last registered concurrently in more than one country (e.g under dual or bareboat registry) from the registry of every such country, free and clear of registered encumbrances and a copy of the deletion certificate(s) should be attached to such declaration.
