Upon entry into Costa Rica, the owner (or his representative) will get a Temporary Permit for the vessel, Certificado de Importación Temporal from the Ministry of Finance and Customs permit is valid for 3 months and can be renewed for an extra 3-months. The permit must be renewed before it expires. If it expires, the owner will need to leave Costa Rica.
If the owner wants to keep the vessel in Costa Rica for more than 6 months, the only way to realize this intention is to make 1 or 2-year rental contract with Los Sueños Marina. This process can be a lawyer or the vessel owner. The permit receiving procedure takes about 2 weeks. The proprietor will have to pay from $100.00 to $1,000.00 fee for processing a 1 or 2-year permit (the price depends on the person, who will do all paperwork – it may be a lawyer, an agent or the captain of the vessel).
Required documents (specifications of Ministry of Transportation): Customs provisional permit - original; certificate of documentation (registration) of the vessel; copy of the non-commercial slip rental agreement (in Spanish); affidavit made before a Costa Rican Notary Public, in which the proprietor of the vessel states that this vessel does not have a lien or claim against it in the country in which it is registered; power of attorney authorizing the person that the owner designates to take care of the paperwork on his (her) behalf; if the proprietor of the vessel is a company, the Ministry of Transportation requires a notarized certificate that proves that the representative of the vessel is a legal representative of the company and has sufficient authority to act on behalf of the company; a Certificate of incorporation of the company will also be requested by the Ministry of Transportation. |
