Import Regulations in Belize
There are no requirements concerning local ownership (participation in ownership), in order to apply for registration of a boat in International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (IMMARBE).

The activities and procedures regarding registration of yachts and the relevant obligations (requirements) applicable to all vessels enrolled or seeking enrollment in the Merchant Marine of Belize are control by the "Regulations for pleasure vessels" (1991). Belize is a member of the International Maritime Organization and the International Labor Organization. Also the country has ratified a number of maritime conventions.

Registration of non-commercial vessels and yachts
A simplified process for the registration of pleasure boats and yachts as well as other non-commercial boats provides for the enrollment under permanent status for two years and a specific registration price.
Prior to the registration the following requirements have to be completed: builder's certificate (if it is a newly built boat); bill of sale; judicial sale instrument (resolution).

The necessary documentation is considered properly notarized only in such method: a public notary or any other authorized public official vested with such a power have to include a statement in written form in the document certifying the authenticity of the signature's (appearing on the document as well as the authority of the person's) executing the document.

Copy of a document is considered a properly certified true copy of its originals when a notary or any other authorized public official vested with such a power have to insert in the document a statement indicating that grounded on the original document to him submitted he attests that he has collated the document and it corresponds to the original in all its sections.

IMMARBE's Deputy Registrars are vested by the Merchant Ships Act with authorization to notarize documentation and to execute as certifying officials for all IMMARBE's aims.

The standard cost of yacht registration with IMMARBE consists of: registration fee (US $ 750); radio license fee (US $ 50); administration fee (US $ 400); professional fee ( US $ 550). So, the total value of the yacht registration is about US $ 1750.

Annual taxes for yachts from 6 metres to 15 metres in length - US $ 250; for yachts from 15 metres to 25 metres in length – US $ 500.

Safety requirements:
Tonnage measurement certificate (simplified procedure) issued for US $ 100. This is a permanent certificate which doesn’t  require annual renewal.

Certificate of compliance for pleasure craft is a subject to an annual endorsement and has 5 year validity. The proprietor may choose the body for this procedure: administration-appointed surveyor and endorsed annually subsequent ( the inspection of the vessel will cost US $ 500 per annum); or a recognized organization at their running rate.
